A fast truck collided with a religious procession on Sunday evening in the Vaishali district of Bihar, injuring at least eight people, some of whom were children.
Numerous locals were gathered on the state’s Mahanar-Hajipur highway near Sultanpur at around 9 p.m. for a procession to offer prayers to a local deity known as “Bhumiya baba” in front of a “peepal” tree on the roadside.
Vaishali DM Yash Pal Meena gave an update on the situation on Monday morning. He said that eight people have died so far, and four people who were hurt are still being treated.
Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar offered their condolences to the families of the deceased and announced financial assistance.While the PMO said that PMNRF would give an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that Rs 5 lakh would be given to each deceased person’s family.
