In the past, the plan could only be used by people who had been in the profession for a long time.According to officials, the state cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to extend a financial assistance of 1 lakh to all poor families involved in the trade of liquor or toddy in any way, for their rehabilitation. This was done in an effort to improve implementation of the strict prohibition law in Bihar. This was one of 31 proposals that the state cabinet approved today after formal discussion at its meeting, which was presided over by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
S Siddharth, additional chief secretary (ACS) and cabinet secretary, informed reporters following the meeting that the new scheme, which was previously restricted to villages, would be implemented in urban areas as well and across all classes and communities.The ACS stated that the potential beneficiaries, who were determined by Jeevika self-help volunteers, would receive financial support to start their own business or trade. In another significant decision, the cabinet approved the excise and prohibition department’s proposal to reduce the amount of time that must be spent auctioning movable and immovable property that has been confiscated under the liquor law from 210 days to 90 days.Vehicles and other property seized during law enforcement had to remain in safe custody for a longer period of time because the act stipulated a deadline of seven months.
The state government has changed the criteria and selection procedures for the appointment of Anganbadi sevika and sahayika to maintain transparency in response to the growing number of complaints about the process.Instead of accepting applications in person, applicants must now submit their applications online.The minimum educational requirement for sevikas has been raised to plus two, and the minimum for sahaiya has been raised to matriculation.In the past, the respective posts required matriculation and an 8th-grade passing grade.
